Solutions Architect, Enterprise Applications
Flagship Pioneering
Flagship Pioneering is a biotechnology company that invents and builds platform companies, each with the potential for multiple products that transform human health or sustainability. We create about six new companies every year and incubate them through successive rounds of funding.
Since launching in 2000, Flagship has originated and fostered more than 100 scientific ventures, resulting in more than $90 billion in aggregate value.
Many of the companies Flagship has founded have addressed humanity’s most urgent challenges: vaccinating billions of people against COVID-19, curing intractable diseases, improving human health, preempting illness, and feeding the world by improving the resiliency and sustainability of agriculture.
Flagship has been recognized twice on FORTUNE’s “Change the World” list, an annual ranking of companies that have made a positive social and environmental impact through activities that are part of their core business strategies, and has been twice named to Fast Company’s annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies. Position Summary:
We are seeking a hands-on, technically skilled Enterprise Architect to help shape and execute the architectural vision for a diverse and rapidly growing software ecosystem. This enterprise-wide role is responsible for designing and implementing scalable, secure, and business-aligned solutions while also directly participating in integration development, system evaluations, and architectural governance.
The ideal candidate blends strategic thinking with deep technical execution, bringing strong knowledge of enterprise systems, cloud technologies, application rationalization, and data management. You will play a central role in optimizing our application landscape and ensuring Flagship's digital environment remains efficient, secure, and responsive to business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Architecture & Solution Design
- Design and document enterprise architectures that align business goals with IT capabilities across applications, data, integrations, and infrastructure.
- Lead the creation of architectural blueprints, roadmaps, and standards to guide development and software selection.
- Execute on architecture — including building integrations using tools like Workato or Power Platform and validating implementations through testing and configuration reviews.
Application Portfolio Management
- Maintain visibility into a large and diverse portfolio of third-party software applications, including their cost, usage, integrations, and lifecycle stage.
- Identify opportunities for rationalization, consolidation, or retirement of redundant or low-value applications.
- Define and track application lifecycle plans from evaluation to decommissioning, ensuring alignment with business and technical priorities.
Evaluation, Standards & Governance
- Design and enforce technical evaluation criteria, questionnaires, and review processes for new software requests.
- Develop and maintain IT architecture policies, procedures, and standards (e.g., integration development policy).
- Ensure architectural compliance with cybersecurity standards, interoperability requirements, and enterprise data policies.
Integration & Data Strategy
- Design and implement system integrations between enterprise platforms and SaaS tools using Workato or similar tools.
- Collaborate with IT and business teams to ensure effective integration of applications and data flows.
- Support and promote master data management (MDM) best practices, helping to drive consistency and quality in data across systems.
Business Partnership & Enablement
- Engage with stakeholders across IT and business teams to understand goals, processes, and pain points.
- Translate business needs into technical requirements and actionable architectural designs.
- Present recommendations and technical proposals to IT leadership and contribute to strategic IT planning initiatives.
Qualifications:
Required
- Experience designing, building, and/or maintaining enterprise-scale software solutions across a variety of platforms.
- Proven ability to both design architecture and execute it directly—especially in integration, evaluation, and standards development.
- Strong working knowledge of SaaS platforms, cloud computing, cybersecurity practices, and enterprise applications.
- Experience with integration platforms (e.g., Workato, Power Platform).
- Familiarity with application portfolio management and lifecycle governance.
- Understanding of master data management (MDM) principles and implementation.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field—or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable writing policies, work instructions, and presenting to leadership.
Preferred
- Experience with enterprise systems such as UKG, NetSuite, Salesforce.com, or similar platforms.
- Technical certifications (e.g., AWS, Azure, TOGAF, Workato, Salesforce).
- Experience working in a life sciences or innovation-driven environment.
