Product Development Engineer - Crainio

Location: London, UK

Who Are We

At Crainio, we are transforming brain injury diagnostics by enabling non-invasive, real-time measurement of intracranial pressure (ICP) - a critical indicator in diagnosing and treating Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). By using low-power infrared light and advanced machine learning algorithms, technology estimates ICP through a simple forehead probe, eliminating the need for invasive procedures. With over 2.5 million TBI cases annually in Europe, our mission is to make ICP monitoring safer, more accessible, and more affordable for patients and clinicians worldwide.

Your Role Purpose

As a Product Development Engineer, you will take strategic ownership of Crainio’s non-invasive intracranial pressure measurement technology, guiding it from early development through clinical integration. You will lead product development with a hands-on mindset by aligning user needs, engineering capabilities, and regulatory standards. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will help to ensure the technology is not only compliant and reliable, but serves its real-world impact in clinical settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end product development: drive the delivery of innovative product solutions from prototyping to market launch
  • Strategic product planning: take strategic ownership of the full product development lifecycle and combine high-level vision with hands-on execution in close collaboration with C-suite executives
  • Translate insight into product direction: analyze market trends and end-users’ as well as external shareholders’ feedback to shape requirements for the product by balancing priorities and trade-offs to guide development
  • Cross-disciplinary technical leadership: partner with engineering and cross-functional teams to shape and align hardware and software roadmaps into a cohesive product vision
  • Ensure regulatory & quality compliance: lead the team through design controls and ensure all outputs meet Quality Management System and ISO 13485 standards, ensuring safe, reliable, and regulatory-compliant first use in hospital settings
  • Drive effective project execution: create and manage transparent project plans that foster collaboration, agility, and continuous improvement across the team

What You Bring:

  • Robust technical foundation in engineering or a science, with experience in high-tech product development in disruptive markets across medical devices, software, and electromechanical systems
  • A user-centered mindset, ideally backed by a design qualification and a strong record of translating user needs into impactful solutions
  • Start-ups’ agility, with experience in small, fast-paced environments requiring adaptability, autonomy, and problem-solving
  • Working knowledge of ISO 13485, with experience navigating regulatory and quality standards in medical device development and manufacturing
  • Cross-functional leadership, capable of driving complex product delivery through both strategic planning and execution across multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong communication & problem-solving skills, with a track record of simplifying complexity, generating valuable IP, and influencing stakeholders effectively
